The Department of English, Green University of Bangladesh (GUB), successfully organized Alumni Get-Together 2026 in collaboration with IQAC and CCD on Saturday, 22 August 2026, bringing together alumni, faculty members, current students, and university officials in a warm and engaging gathering. The event provided an opportunity to reconnect with former students, celebrate their achievements, exchange experiences, and strengthen the continuing relationship between the Department and its alumni.
The program began with a Meet and Greet, creating an informal opportunity for alumni, teachers, and students to reconnect and exchange memories and experiences. This was followed by a welcome speech by Dr. Serajum Munira, Associate Professor, Department of English, Director of CLCS and CCD.
At the beginning of the formal session, Fairooz Saiara, an alumna of the Department and currently a Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of New Mexico, USA, addressed the gathering and shared reflections on her academic and professional journey. Her experience offered an inspiring perspective on the opportunities and pathways available to graduates of the Department of English.
The formal session was further enriched by speeches from Professor Dr. M. Shahidullah, Honorable Dean, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FAAS), GUB; Professor Dr. Khawza Iftekhar Uddin Ahmed, Honorable Pro-Vice Chancellor, GUB; and Dr. Md. Shamim Mondol, Associate Professor, Chairperson, Department of English, GUB. Their remarks emphasized the importance of maintaining strong connections between the Department and its alumni, encouraging graduates to remain engaged with the Department and contribute to its continued academic and professional development. The speakers also highlighted the value of alumni experiences and contributions in inspiring current students and strengthening the Department’s academic community.
During the session, the Department expressed its appreciation to the previous Alumni Committee for its contributions and welcomed the new Alumni Committee, marking another step toward strengthening alumni engagement and collaboration.
A significant feature of the event was the career development session titled “Crafting Your Career: Professional Paths for English Graduates.” The session brought together accomplished graduates to share perspectives on professional development, workplace expectations, career pathways, and the skills required for success in a changing global job market. The session provided valuable guidance to students and alumni by connecting academic learning with practical professional experiences and diverse career opportunities available to English graduates.
The day also featured an alumni feedback session, providing graduates with an opportunity to share their perspectives, experiences, and suggestions regarding the Department. Dr. Md. Elham Hossain, Associate Professor, Department of English and Director of GCiA, addressed the alumni, while Md. Ashiqur Rahman Sourav, Lecturer, Department of English and Assistant Proctor, Green University of Bangladesh, introduced the new M.A programs of the Department. Mr. Md. Mazharul Islam, Joint Registrar, also addressed the gathering. Md. Alamgir, President of the Alumni Committee 2026, spoke as the alumni representative.
The event continued with games and sports, networking, and other interactive activities, creating opportunities for alumni, faculty members, and students to engage beyond the formal sessions. The gathering also featured cultural performances, adding a festive dimension to the celebration. The event also featured the reception of the new club moderator, Ms. Aklima Akter, Assistant Professor, Department of English, and bidding farewell to the former moderator, Ms. Samsad Sultana, Lecturer, Department of English, at the end of the program.
As part of the celebration, alumni received tokens of gifts as a gesture of appreciation and a memento of their continued connection with the Department. The program also included prize-giving and the presentation of special gifts to alumni.
The Alumni Get-Together 2026 concluded on a joyful and memorable note, bringing together generations of students and faculty members in celebration of shared experiences and achievements. The event reaffirmed the Department of English’s commitment to maintaining a strong and enduring alumni network and creating opportunities for continued academic, professional, and personal engagement among its graduates.
