Successful Completion of Industry Visit at Nice Spun Mills Limited – Organized by the Department of Textile Engineering
GUB | 17-Oct-26
We are pleased to share that the Department of Textile Engineering successfully organized an industrial visit to Nice Spun Mills Limited on 17 October 2026. This visit offered our 260 batch students vital practical exposure to industrial spinning processes, fiber preparation, yarn manufacturing, advanced machinery, and quality testing workflows. The journey began at the GUB campus around 8:50 AM, traveling on a university bus (DM SA 11-0700) arranged by the Logistics Section. The students arrived at the factory—located in Chakpara, Mawna, Sreepur, Gazipur—at roughly 11:00 AM. Upon arrival, the factory management warmly welcomed our students and generously provided refreshments. To ensure an effective, hands-on learning environment, the students were divided into two smaller groups.Expert Guidance and Factory Floor InsightsBefore heading to the production floor, Mr. Monir Hossain (General Manager, Spinning) shared valuable insights into the fundamental stages of spinning and their real-world importance in yarn manufacturing. On the factory floor, two dedicated industry specialists guided the groups through the processing lines. They explained machine mechanics, material flow, and the precise purpose of each manufacturing stage, helping students seamlessly connect their classroom theory with large-scale industrial operations.Key Technical Areas CoveredFiber Profiling: Understanding the distinct properties, moisture absorbency, and manufacturing applications of cotton and viscose fibers.Spinning Pathways: Comparing the processing steps of both carded and combed spinning routes. The Blow Room Line: Observing fiber opening, blending, waste removal, chute feeding, and the critical process of detecting foreign contaminants.Carding and Drawing: Watching fiber individualization, nep removal, and sliver formation, followed by doubling and drafting on draw frames to maximize sliver uniformity.Lap Forming and Combing: Learning how short fibers are extracted to improve fiber parallelization and ensure premium yarn quality.Ring Spinning and Winding: Observing how the ring frame drafts and twists fibers into yarn, and how automatic winding machines package the yarn while clearing defects.Quality Control and Laboratory DiagnosticsStudents also toured the testing laboratories to see how international quality standards are maintained using advanced testing equipment, including:HVI (High Volume Instrument): For analyzing raw cotton length, strength, uniformity, and micronaire.AFIS (Advanced Fiber Information System): For mapping yarn evenness and identifying thin or thick imperfections.Specialized Testers: Observing the Splice Tester (joint integrity), Twist Tester (turns per inch), and CSP Tester (Count Strength Product). The students returned to the GUB campus at approximately 5:30 PM. Overall, the visit was an incredibly enriching experience that provided our students with a clear practical edge, preparing them well for their future academic projects and professional textile careers. We extend our deepest gratitude to Mr. Monir Hossain (GM, Spinning), Mr. Md. Razib Hossain (Manager, HR, Admin & Compliance), the floor specialists, and the entire team at Nice Spun Mills Limited for their outstanding hospitality and mentorship. We also express our sincere gratitude to the Green University of Bangladesh for arranging transportation and providing lunch for the participating students. Their collective support and cooperation helped make the industrial visit a successful and enriching educational experienceThank you for your time and continued support.
